Did the Romans invent Christ
Brittish scholar lays claim - the Romans invented Christ. This article is a bit of a stub and does not give any real evidence, and the web site is a bit shallow as well, and even if it reeks Dan Brown and conspiration theorism to me, someone might think it an interesting read and may have some arguments to add. So here we go!

I'm not buying it. I think he's an amalgam of various such messiahs running around the southern Levant in those days. One "invented" by natives.

Re: Did the Romans invent Christ
I heard about this so-called scholar. Just trying to make a sensationalist name for himself I think.
Regardless of whether the Jesus of traditional lore is a single figure or an amalgam of several, I think it is fairly obvious, even to a casual observer, that he was not a creation of the Roman Imperial government. The parallels in his journey through Iudaea are, I think, just coincidental, and reflective of the simple reality that there are just not very many paths to be taken on a journey southward from Galilee to Jerusalem. Iudaea is a small country.

Yeah, I've heard of all this before. Unconvincing arguments. Too easy, in the end. One can almost always benefit by becoming accustomed to disappointment and disenchantment in the grand historical view of things...
