I just noticed it now, but why was half of my post removed from this thread? Did it violate the rules of this forum somehow?

Yes it did, but not severely. And I have an unwritten 3-strikes rule anyhow, so you aren't in any trouble. I apologize for any confusion.
The rules should go out with the registration welcome email, but they should probably be posted in the Beginners section likewise.
