Thomas Taylor as a hero
I've recently begun to feel that I ought to venerate Thomas Taylor. As far as I know, he was the first person in the English-speaking world not just to practice Hellenism, but to publicly advocate it. His tireless work as a translator has influenced many. If any modern Hellenist is a hero, surely he is.
He was born around 1 a.m. on 15 May 1758. A little investigation showed that this was 7 Thargelion - the Thargelia - in the Athenian calendar. How appropriate!
