Libations Empty Libations

Post  holden1420 Thu Sep 25, 2014 10:40 am

I know this is a very general question, but after pouring a libation, either wine or spring water, what is the best way to go about disposing of it. I live in a apartment so i don't have any grass to pour them out on, I got some plants to help out in this regard but that's not enough. I hate to let it sit in the offering bowl and let it evaporate, so if you a better way please tell me.

It is always best to offer the kinds of sacrifices that are most suited to your setting – i.e. of which you can most easily dispose of appropriately.

The Gods are honored by the kinesis of offering; a god does not actually partake of mortal food or drink. As such, it is permissible (although not quite ideal) for edible or potable oblations to be consumed after their being offered.

That said, though, you can offer sacrifice in other ways that do not result in anything requiring special disposal. Incense burns to ash, and laurel leaves can be left at the shrine until dry, then burned.

Also, if you offer things which can be composted, such as the laurel leaves, you can always use them as a mulch for plants dedicated to the Gods.

Perhaps you could grow a potted laurel tree, they grow pretty easily. Laurel leaves used as offerings become fertilizer for new offerings.

Same for libations. You could always offer just enough water to water the laurel tree for the day. Offerings being used too create new offerings.

It's a beautiful symbol of the Eros that flows between Gods and mortals, IMHO.
