Mythology course on Coursera
I figured you guys would be interested in this. A course on Roman and Greek mythology has just started on Coursera. I think it's the most informative to just paste the syllabus:
It's quite an intensive course. You'll be reading the Odyssey, Theogony, Oedipus the King, and Metamorphoses, among others. It's offered by the University of Pennsylvania. If you pass it, you'll get a statement of accomplishment, so you can put that on your CV. Oh, and it's completely free. You can find the course at coursera.org/course/mythology .
It's already started, though. I should've shared this earlier, but I forgot. Anyway, you have to be quick, as the deadline for the first quiz is tomorrow at 9.00 P.M. (There was no reading assignment for week 1, though, just a few video lectures).
Who's in on this?
Week 1: Homer, epic poetry, and Trojan legends
Week 2: Heroes and suffering
Week 3: This World and other ones
Week 4: Identity and signs
Week 5: Gods and humans
Week 6: Religion and ritual
Week 7: Justice
Week 8: Unstable selves
Week 9: Writing myth in history
Week 10: From myths to mythology

Re: Mythology course on Coursera
I've taken a handful of courses on Classical Mythology. I'm taking another two this fall. Online classes just aren't for me, I'm afraid. But being as it's free, I think this would be a beyond excellent idea for someone who is either new to or wants a better understanding of, mythology.
Thank you for letting everyone know about this.

Thanks for posting this. I often take Coursera courses (mostly on computer sciences), so I may take a look at this one as well.

Cool!!!
I was new to Coursera, so I missed this class, but I signed up to this one instead: The ancient greeks (sorry, not allowed to post the link yet).
Might be interesting for some of us.
