Does anyone know why Cerberus has 3 heads? What does it mean if anything?

It's often analyzed as representation of death devouring all creatures of the sky, earth and sea.

According to Hesiod's Theogony, he had 50 heads and was as tall as the sky with the tail of a serpent. Different artists have various ideas about him. Most often, he is also depicted with two heads, rather than 3.

As well as past, present, and future, childhood, middle age, and old age. In many beliefs, the three heads symbolize various things.
