I am somewhat unclear on them, are the the Hundred-Handed ones or another set of Daimons entirely?

Tritopatores Empty Re: Tritopatores

Post  Erodius Thu Apr 11, 2013 3:20 am

The title simply means 'three fathers'. By the time of the Byzantine compilation of the Souda encyclopedia — which is likely derived from much older encyclopediae — the 'Tritopatores' designation was uncertain, though it certainly refers to some group of three paternal gods. The Souda has suggested Kottos, Briareos, and Gyes (the Hundred-handers/Hekatonkheires/Centimani), but referenced also an Orphic designation of the three Winds: Boreas, Zephyros and Notos. Another Tritopatores grouping may be the Orphic three Kronides or Triad Zeus: Zeus, Poseidon, and Plouton, who overlap in Their identification with the Winds.
