Serapis Empty Serapis

Post  Dimitrios65 Wed Sep 20, 2017 5:59 pm

Hello,
Does anyone here worship Serapis? I'm not sure as to the extent that this question is relevant for this forum, but if you do worship Serapis, how do you view him in the wider context of Olympianismos?

Many thanks

Serapis Empty Re: Serapis

Serapis was sometimes dentified with Hades (Julian) and a few other gods, he had an awesome temple in Alexandria, the Serapeum. I've read that some Christians identified Serapis with Christ. When the Christians stormed the Serapeum and stood in front of the magnificent statue they were awestruck and fearful to strike the statue of the god for fear that the sky would fall over their heads and the Nile would dry up.

Like all of the Gods, yes, I worship Serapis. Since I am devoted to Dionysos, I find often find that Zeus/Dionysos/Serapis are all aboard the same wagon.

Serapis was generally viewed as a kind of fusion of aspects of Pluto/Hades and Dionysus.

Yes, but you forget that he was also equated with Zeus as Zeus-Serapis. Zeus also has many Chthonic qualities about him.

Serapis Empty Serapis

Post  Dodeka Mon Oct 01, 2018 10:42 am

I had a dream, where there was a lot of dust. It was like a desert in egypt and I was not in my body but it seems, that I am in the perspective of a god. Than there was a vase falling down to earth and shattered. In this vase there was a figure, looks like a toy. And a feeling said to me, that that toy is me. The dream was kinda confusing because I was not in my body and the body actually was not a body. And then I inhaled smoke, smoke so much smoke. It felt so good like smoking weed or sth. And then I woke up while I was inhaling, and I had the feeling I am inhaling smoke and I coughed. And then a name shouted in my brain but I could not remember what name it was in the dream so I concentrated and tried to remember. And then I remembered, it was Serapis. At that moment I dont know what Serapis actually is. So I googled it on my mobilphone and found out that it is an ancient god. I also googled the meaning of shaterring vase, that means bad luck for your family. What actually happened: My father divorced from my mother some time later. It was like a prevision.

What I know now about Serapis: It is a mixture god of Zeus, Apis, Hades, Helios and Dionysos. Zeus stands for the universal Power of that god, Helios for the spritual manly Sun-aspects, Hades that he is a god of the underworld and of riches (grain and agriculture), the apis bull means vertility the grain basket on his head is symbolising fertility (riches, money, success), dionysos the intoxication and ecstatic aspects of that god. my dream was indeed kinda intoxicating. He is a syncretic god. Imo it makes sense to worship serapis, when you worship primarily zeus, hades, helios, dionysos and apis and you want to simplify it by worhipping to a single personification.

Awesome story! I'm glad someone else is honoring Serapis.

It should be said that, though I do acknowledge the syncretism of Serapis from time to time, I usually honor Him as His own God.
