Divine Tests

Post  AgathonZante on Tue Feb 21, 2017 12:10 am

Do you think it's possible that a God could put a human through a test? Do you think it's possible that the Gods might put one of their servants through hardships to see if their loyalty will hold up? Could the Gods test someone to see if they will turn on them? Or whatever the reason may be.

That sounds like Story of Job to me, in which the Biblical God tests Job to prove his loyalty toward God.

Maybe it exists also in polytheism, but I didn't read about it yet. From the readings I more have the impression that the "great" gods are merely dealing with cities as a collective. When war or plague came upon city, citizens would have thought that gods felt neglected and would punish the city therefore.

That is just my impression I have from paganism.

Paka,
Iwan
