Persephone Holidays

Post  xxChella21xx on Sat Oct 11, 2014 12:20 am

Hey, So I was just wondering if anyone was aware of any holidays that are dedicated to celebrating the Great Goddess Persephone.
As my primary goddess of worship, I'm just interested in finding out if there are any upcoming holidays (or any holidays in general) that are relevant to honoring Her.
Hope to hear some good news on the matter. : )

-Many Blessings.

She was really not much worshipped outside of funerary rites or Eleusis; it was considered unlucky to say her name out loud, because she might hear you. She did receive some worship, but mostly she was respected and feared from a distance. As the saying goes, she gives life, and kills all who live.

When she did receive worship in certain places and during certain festivals, she and her mother were usually worshipped together, instead of separately. Rarely were either worshipped without the other, actually. Local shrine festivals would vary, but their major holy season falls around the window of September, the time of the autumnal equinox, for reasons I would guess are fairly clear. Wink
