Greetings from Belgium

Post  Antiochus on Sat Sep 14, 2013 12:07 pm

Hello ! As you can see i'm here totally new on this site.
Currently i'm very intrested to join Olympianismos, but i do find my self not ready yet for this step so far.

Before i start with this, i first want to have more knowledge about the twelve olympic gods.
Currently i'm researching Aphrodite then i'm planning to learn more about Athena. After i've learned the meanings behing the greek mythology then i'll do the big step.

i Always had many respect for ancient greece (Romans too) especially the successor states , Bactria,Seleucid empire,Antigonid empire (under Antigonus I Monopthalmus),Ptolemaic empire

Anyways much respect to you true olympians and may the olympic gods/godesses bless you!

Regards, looking forward to post here more!

Welcome to the forum Smile

Before i start with this, i first want to have more knowledge about the twelve olympic gods.
Currently i'm researching Aphrodite then i'm planning to learn more about Athena. After i've learned the meanings behing the greek mythology then i'll do the big step.
You can begin by looking here http://olympianismos.forumotion.com/f20-dodekatheon , but beyond this, there is a considerable amount of reading available to you. There are a variety of helpful links toward the bottom of the main page of the forum, but even still, you're going to have to do some hard-copy reading.

One of the very best overall introductions I've seen to the Classical mythology is Trzaskoma's Anthology of Classical Myth. All of the texts within are primary, and are all in brand new and very readable translations. Such core texts as Hesiod, major books of the Homeric epics, selections from Aeschylus, Apollodorus, Pausanias, Callimachus, Plato and more are all condensed together in one single, relatively inexpensive book.

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/anthology-of-classical-myth-stephen-m-trzaskoma/1101462353?ean=9780872207219

(available also from Amazon, both new and used, in both hard copy and e-book/e-reader formats)

First off, it is important to become familiar with the common and general mythology shared by all lines of Olympiac religion. Then, once you are familiar with that, you can approach a study of the actual theology, in which different schools can differ considerably from one another.

Best of luck to you, and again, welcome.

In your research of Aphrodite, consider the works of Sappho. Smile They are rather moving and help draw conclusions to other sources.
