"Reiki"?
Hello to everyone.
Recently, a question came up in my mind and hopefully you can answer it: Do the Greek Gods and Goddesses allow us, as we are their followers, to be initiated in and actively use energy healing techniques, for example "Reiki"?
At the moment I am working in a establishment for young and old disabled people.
A colleague told me that she uses "Reiki" because she is of the opinion that the energy helps her clients, especially the old ones.
Could I be initiated into "Reiki" or another healing system, too or do the Gods strictly refuse it?
I am looking forward to hearing from you.

No, you should not waste your time. Regardless of religion, rational thinking and common sense should refuse it for you.Lesbian Believer wrote:Hello to everyone.

There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that 'Reiki' even exists, and research has not provided any evidence at all that it is effective in treating any illness. It is an, often expensive, imaginary scam that should never ever be promulgated as an effective treatment for any condition. You would be throwing away your time and money to learn such foolish quackery.
Energy healing, plainly and simply, is not real. It is semi-delusional wishful thinking and a nice egoistic power-boost for the 'energy healer.'
Reiki is not real, and while I do not know your colleague, most of its 'practitioners' are either deliberate charlatans or are living in a dream world. Whatever benefit one derives from it (if any at all), is the result of simple placebo effect and a relaxing atmosphere.

I apologize for my apparent harshness, but it is exactly this kind of ridiculous trash that abounds in 'New-Age/crystal-healing/Atlantis/UFO' groups, and, understandably, discredits them in the eyes of rational folks.

I think if the Gods were to be averse to initiation to non-Hellenic practices it would mean that theoretically they were also averse to Plato, Pythagoras, etc., who were introduced to non-Hellenic traditions according to tradition!
I concur with Erodius regarding common sense. Lesbian Believer, my friend, there is nothing that can beat good clear thinking on the Gods, in the end. Who needs reiki when you have prayer? Why heal the body when you can heal the soul?
Heraclitus tells us that his logos, within him, is not strictly his. There is something divine and even immortal within it. I feel we do not pay enough attention to this notion, of the original divine nature of the soul, which applies to the faiths of Hellenism whether heroic and Homeric or Orphic or whatever your personal approach-- There is something divine within you. Once this is realized, and the consequences of it are internalized and you learn to experience life this way, it is very profound. It is a transformation. Then your love of the Gods will never leave you, no matter how much doubt and caprice may plague you in your personal life. Then you will come to understand suffering and the miseries of the world.
