Pouring libations

What do you use to pour your libations with? I've used a cruet and even a mason jar, but I keep getting drips. It's driving me crazy! It's like every night I have to wash my altar cloth.

I use a glass cruet. It does drip. I just keep a cloth on hand to clean it off.

If you're dripping on something that might stain, like cloth, just move the cloth.

You might consider using a creamer jug, or try a different cruet.

Wow. A creamer jug never occurred to me. To the thrift store I a-go...tomorrow. If that doesn't work, I'll just wrap a cloth around the cruet and deal with it. Thanks again for your help.

I usually libate from my vacuum flask, or water or milk straight from the bottle.

The issue there is that those things (excepting water) cannot be left at the site of worship. Plus, I think a thermos would be such an awful eyesore.

A glass bottle, however, might be another thing with less potential for dripping. You can buy empty glass bottles at craft stores for only a dollar or so, and that saves the trouble of having to clean up a used bottle.

Or, you could just do the obvious and pour directly from the wine bottle. If that's overly cumbersome, you can also get small 'personal size' wine bottles, and you could recycle one of those for use.

Well, after I make tea I put it in the thermos. And I pour directly from it, it's not specifically for cultic use. It's like what you say about pouring wine directly from the bottle.

If you're just casually drinking from a thermos, then, of course, you have little choice in the matter.

I'm speaking of specific cultic libation/use, rather than a mealtime/drink outpouring.

Well, I went to the thrift store in town and couldn't find a creamer jug, so I went to Wal-Mart (while not my favorite place, it's a small town and the only big store).  I found a creamer jug, but it was in the shape of a cow/bull, which would be awesome I guess for Dionysos, but that's not who it's just for.  I did find a syrup pitcher, so we'll test that out and see if it works.

Well Zeus and Hera are associated with bovines as well (cow eyed Hera, Zeus and Europa) so I imagine the jar is fitting for the royal pair as well.

There are many things you can do or use. Like keep a cloth nearby, set it on a saucer to catch any drips. What are you pouring the libation into? Maybe used something wider, or place something underneath it.

For those who live considerable distances from stores, or simply have limited store options, Amazon and eBay should become your best friends. You can acquire very nearly anything that is available for sale, and typically at considerably lower cost than at a specialty store.

In my experience, I've almost never failed to find precisely what I was shopping for on either Amazon or eBay. There's no need to compromise, nor to be forced into contributing to the Wal-Mart behemoth.

I could not agree more. Between the two there isn't much one can't find, and even with shipping you'll not pay much more than you would given time, transportation and taxes if you went bargain hunting locally.
