Gift/Offering to Hermes
I believe Hermes is not only a messenger god, but relates to transportation, correct? I prayed to him yesterday concerning a driver's test. I was afraid to drive when I was a teenager, so I waited until I was an adult to get my permit. I prayed to Hermes to help me pass the test or at least make circumstances better to help me out, such as people being more lenient. I burned incense as an offering when I prayed, but I know never to come to the gods empty-handed, so I promised Hermes that if he helps me with this, I will give him something really amazing...or at least something that's a bit of a minor sacrifice. Although the person who tested me wasn't very nice and was quite picky, she was lenient in terms of the actual test eventually, since I was so nervous. I'm definitely a good driver otherwise (albeit new), but when I get nervous, I have some difficulty...It's why I asked for Hermes' help. A lot of things were going wrong in the beginning of the day, yet somehow things actually fell into place during the test. I do think Hermes helped...at least, I'd hope, since I plan on following through with my thank you to him. Passing the test given the circumstances (fatigue, initial car troubles, and obnoxious staff).
Now, my question is in regard to his gift/offering. What would Hermes appreciate? I have considered going out and buying him something, but that may take a week or so to pick out. I've been saving up for a tattoo, and I have actually considered permanently giving him some of my savings (which will set me back some) to show him my gratitude, but I'm afraid that giving money might be rude? On the other hand, the money is so important to me at the moment, that even twenty dollars is a sacrifice.
Thoughts?

Correct. 'Έρμης also has dominion over travel, business, monetary transactions/entrepreneurship, writing and language, communication, and ther origin of thoughts, and the Law of Motion relevant to creation and evolution of existence.I believe Hermes is not only a messenger god, but relates to transportation, correct?
Gods have no desires nor needs — nor do they benefit from mortal sacrifices. Rather, the sacrifices of mortals serve to tangibly demonstrate the turning of the self away from the ego and unto Divinity. This goes for small, common sacrifices, as well as for larger ones. A larger sacrifice is often given in return for, as appears in your situation, a major request. The giving of a proportionally greater sacrifice in return serves as a demonstration of your non-selfishness and willingness to part with something that you possess in order to have your new request fulfilled.
As I said, a god has no wants or needs or moods — they are not people. Ἕρμης does not technically appreciate any sacrifice, but rather the act of sacrificing itself, and the sacrificer's willingness to turn from the self unto God instead. Usually, in making such a vow, you would have stated explicitly what you intend to give in return if your request is fulfilled. But in your case, you were not so clear. As such, it really does not matter what it is that you sacrifice, so long as it is pure, not forbidden in the situation (there are very few things that are), and is given in the proper mindset. Now, my question is in regard to his gift/offering. Incense is a fine sacrifice — that is by no means 'coming empty handed'. In fact, among some schools and groups, it was and remains the primary sacrifice. In the Orphic religion, for instance, nearly all sacrifices consist of incense or laurel leaves.I burned incense as an offering when I prayed, but I know never to come to the gods empty-handed,

Thank you for your reply!
Yes, I didn't think that gods really benefited from anything material that we give them. I was indeed trying to show my gratitude by doing this, but I wanted to be sure that there was no "money taboo".
I'm actually really relieved to know that I acted appropriately.
