What other readings are out there that are similar to The Iliad and The Odyssey?

The Argonautika of Apollonios of Rhodes is another, though later, Greek epic, which is in many ways similar to the Homeric epics in its narration of a heroic voyage, although it is quite different in some other respects.

There is also the incredibly long Dionysiaka, which is twice as long as the Iliad and the Odyssee combined. It was written by a Nonnos of Panopolis in late Roman times. He's a bit of a strange character though, on one hand he wrote this incredible epic in dactylic hexameter, and on the other hand we have information that seems to suggest he later became bishop of Panopolis.

I haven't read it myself though.

I'd check the Athenian plays as well, the ones by of Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. Either as a read or, if you have the chanse to really watch them!

What about the works by Hesiod? They seem interesting through the description on Amazon.

I have a play Bacchae from Euripides on my iPod, I enjoy that one!

Hesiod is pretty much an essential read for anyone engaging with Classical myth and religion, and even for Western Literature in general.

In my high-school introductory English class, the fundamentals we had to read and achieve familiarity with were Hesiod, Homer, the Bible, and Shakespeare.

Hesiod's Theogony and the Works & Days are a quick and crucial read. They can easily be finished in a weekend, or if you're a fast reader, in a single afternoon. You also, as a bit of advice, shouldn't have to pay more than a few dollars for a hard copy, and you can read older translations for free online.
